I Survived Monk Mode for 100 Days (should've died)

  • The goal should be to appreciate life.

  • This means breathe, be present and live healthy so that you have clarity of mind, feel happy and become less trapped in your mind and better able to overcome fear.

  • This leads to you exploring more of life :)

  • So don’t do 100 days on monk mode.

  • Just live - but focus on the right things.

  • Listen to when your body or mind needs something - whether this is an indulgence of sorts or literally any other need.

  • Know when you don’t really want it.

  • Poem:

  • The world is so beautiful.

  • Like how the trees sway.

  • I like it that way.

  • And how the birds sing.

  • And people laugh.

  • I like it that way.

  • And how a bitter, salted black coffee on a Saturday morning makes me sink deeper into my own skin.

  • And finally see the world through a clear lens.

  • With love and gratitude.

  • An empty mind, free of food, free of porn, free of lack.

  • I like it that way.

  • Seeing the beauty in every pair of eyes that meet my gaze.

  • Seeing their soul.

  • The wonder of friends greeting each other, people complaining, others arguing.

  • And some just being - like I am.

  • This is how I appreciate the Universe.

  • Day 11

    • Now here’s when I finally realised something obvious.

    • But it wasn’t obvious at the time.

    • How strange is that?

    • You know you actually need to be exposed to things LOTS of times before it sticks with you.

    • That’s why when you find someone who shares good insight online, it’s (probably) wise to absorb their words a few times.

    • Because then you find it sits in.

    • And life becomes all the more clearer.

    • But yeh I realised that a dopamine detox actually involves getting a lot of dopamine after I did some googling.

    • Rather than not getting it.

    • Was doing market research essentially.

    • So after finding these questions, I actually got kind of angry.

    • Angry that so many people had been given the wrong advice about various things.

    • Which is what I do my best to avoid.

    • Mostly because everything I speak about is from direct experience.

    • To some of your friends, it might sound bad to admit that you do things with more efficiency than other people.

    • But when you work hard daily, and the fruits of your labour begin to become obvious as you become happier and life seems simpler.

    • It’s good to acknowledge it.

    • Wouldn’t you agree?

    • So yes, part of appreciating reality is detoxing from stuff that doesn’t benefit you.

    • Now even if you looked me in the eyes and told me that appreciating life is easy.

    • I’d say you’re lying.

    • Because if you’ve noticed that in others AND YOURSELF, people miss the positive sides of the picture all the time.

    • Only seeing the disadvantages.

    • You’ll understand after you’ve heard my poem at the end of the video.

  • Day 12 + 13

    • If you’re trying, that’s part of what’s necessary to find your true path and follow it.

    • I remember when I stopped trying to quit porn.

    • I got to a point where I didn’t even try to refuse the temptation and just clicked on a new tab immediately and just kept watching not even considering the possibility that I could do SOMETHING or click off.

    • And so yeh I remember watching a video by Dan Vas and he mentioned putting in the effort - and I look down like this and realise that I’d stopped putting in effort to even address that problem.

    • That was when I understood the value in at least trying.

    • Specifically, Monk Mode taught me to appreciate your MEALS and eat good ones.

    • Because throughout these 100 days, I ate hella good meals, I didn’t have much of an urge to snack. 

    • Plus, I savoured and loved every bite.

    • Plus plus, save time, sustain higher energy levels and be healthier.

    • Do you appreciate how true what I’m telling you really is?

    • You know I always KNEW that I had to put in effort to resist my pornographic temptations.

    • But someone clearly had to tell me enough times for me to truly get it.

    • Looking at your problems and truly TRYING to find simple solutions.

    • Has it clicked yet?…

  • Day 14

    • It was almost an EPIPHANY to me when I realised this.

    • The next day after this video was recorded, I discovered that I could appreciate time with friends, but not NEED to get wasted.

    • Plus, we went out to a nice place and hung out for the night.

    • Appreciating your friends means exploring, connection, vulnerability, water and good food.

    • How much, with YOUR friend group, do you think that you have this on a scale of 1-10?

    • Don’t think about it too hard.

  • Day 15

    • Only consuming by very conscious choice.

    • It’s strange.

    • Literally between the time of that clip and this present day, I judged people for needing things like a morning coffee to wake up.

    • Vapes to reduce anxiety.

    • Alcohol to make friends or open up.

    • But the thing is - it’s not the fault of these people.

    • They haven’t seen many “Non-Reliance Role Models”.

    • To which I’m trying to become.

    • Or, becoming.

    • People who don’t need anything to be right in order to be content.

    • Do you understand?

    • Sounds difficult to be completely non-reliant, I know that.

    • But if it sounds good to you, then you’re in the right place.

    • At this point you see the appreciation of life importance. Appreciating life and your loved ones means both indulgence is acceptable, and also being non-reliant and present.

    • I’m glad I have this opportunity to reach you with this kind of information. To stress the immense necessity of this stuff to know and to truly understand.

    • Hopefully you’re the kind of person who sees the value in maybe even hearing the same thing a few times so that they begin to really get it.

    • As in, hopefully you’re the kind of person to become Peaky.

    • A Peaky Person.

    • A Present one.

    • Your mind can’t fuck with you when you’re outside of it…

  • Day 19 part 3 (show photos too)

    • I remember when I came up with the content and ideas from my “How to Resist All Urges and Temptations” YT video before I posted it and it blew up with over 200,000 views.

    • It was the first idea I’d had to speak about on YouTube that actually blew my own mind.

    • I was like wait what the fuck.

    • Just KNOWING that merely thinking about consumption of a bunny is just as good as eating it. But then, actually eating it and enjoying every bite because it’s not that serious.

    • Be conscious of this from now on.

    • You didn’t know about the anticipation of dopamine before, or at least didn’t truly understand it.

    • That you don’t need to consume the thing to be satisfied by it.

    • But there you go - you’re welcome…

  • Day 21

    • Among one of the most important things in this video.

    • Also yeh that coffee was pretty shit.

    • Excessive consumption keeps you in your head.

    • Stops you from being present, both because of a decreased level of health, decreased energy and heightened brain fog, but also time wasted thinking about the stuff.

    • Self-development is holistic and all-encompassing.

    • Shirtless and went out with my friend’s Mum.

  • Day 35

    • This reminds me of my regular visits to cafes nowadays.

    • Only getting a coffee and nothing else.

    • Or getting a coffee and a good proper meal.

    • Not just wasteful sugar.

    • And not just a meal for the sake of it.

    • Like recently I was mindfully consuming coffee from THE greatest cafe I’ve been to in Melbourne.

    • Basically meditating.

    • On that gorgeous Saturday morning, at 11:30am precisely.

    • I turned a (small) consumption into mindfulness.

    • So mindfully appreciate stuff when you DO consume.

    • Remember, your ultimate goal in life is not necessarily happiness - but satisfaction.

    • Satisfaction means being satisfied by all which you eat, drink, hear, see, feel, do and experience.

    • Presence and self-connection.

  • Day 40

    • Appreciate time with your loved ones.

    • But unlike what I did, it’s better to be healthy with those you love.

    • Ironically even when it feels like the opposite is true and that this is when you go to the movies with snacks and watch netflix and get takeaway.

    • Appreciating life.

    • This is Monk Mode.

    • Which I presume you caught onto already, but just to state it again.

    • And don’t worry, after my nice summary at the end everything will feel good.

  • Day 43

    • “Appreciating life” short clip.

  • Day 50

    • Include the “masturbation” and “wet dreams” bit.

    • Only some consumption is important to YOU.

    • Decide how you want to go about appreciating life and becoming mentally strong.

    • You can take inspiration from this channel.

    • After we have our call, I might even find some inspiration to take from you.

    • You heard me.

    • So as you tune into yourself, you begin to see what stuff is important to you.

    • For me, I literally don’t use social media so that’s not important to me. But coffee is.

    • So I buy them often, but still only one per day.

  • Day 72

    • Strengthening your mind by refusing temptations creates a positive cycle of not needing anything and therefore continuing to consume less.

    • You feel less suffocated.

    • (change in opinion) you should focus on the self awareness and mental strength so that you can listen to when you do and don’t want to consume and then do what feels right. We want to unlock this ability because that’s what’s needed to pursue our true path in life.

    • “If you’re in an apocalypse - you’ll survive”.

    • This is something I only learnt 3 weeks ago when I OFFICIALLY dropped my scarcity mindset and is why I’m literally going out for Wagyu steak next weekend.

    • No more 2 paid meals a week.

    • Just when I feel like it.

    • But getting to a point where I want good stuff.

    • And have it be less often.

  • Day 82

    • Becoming non-reliant.

      • Got evicted out of nowhere. In a “housing crisis”, many would be stressed. But I was not.

      • I had my landlord come into my room and say to me, “I think you need to move out” and then slowly walk away.

      • And for 3 days I thought he was kidding.

      • Until I randomly checked my old and unused, filled-with-junk email.

      • With an eviction notice attached.

      • I addressed him.

      • And was even more calm than he was.

      • A 50 year old mindful and intelligent psychologist.

      • What do you know.

      • I don’t need anything to be just right.

      • Part of why I’m like this is because I refrain from stuff and make “only necessary consumption” a large part of my life.

      • Too much indulgence and you become weak.

      • But you’re intelligent too, and you already know that don’t you?

  • Day 87

    • Feeling genuinely negative when I became too conscious about whether I needed something or not.

    • I would hear voices in my head almost, just my internal monologue going off all the fucking time in the city.

    • Back and forth.

    • Especially between home and work.

    • Do I need it??

    • So there’s a balance.

    • Listen to yourself, but don’t think too much.

    • And understand that for example with food - good food will satisfy you more so if you think you want food and it begins to get to you, either go home and make something and allow yourself a bit of a treat or sit in a restaurant or cafe.

    • Also a bit of a process.

    • Also remember how your mind does all kinds of shit - this is another thing that you’ve gotta simply be calm about and notice that your mind’s just freaking out and making you feel a certain way.

  • Day 96

    • Appreciating life.

    • Bit of a paradox here.

    • So the clear truth is, my friend.

    • That non-reliance and a strong mind help you gain a clearer vision and become happier and satisfied by more pure and beautiful things in life.

    • But appreciating life also means drinking coffee out at a cafe, going to a nice restaurant and sitting in a forest with a bottle of water.

    • And maybe naked.

    • That’s for you to decide…

  • Day 100

    • The truth you and I have uncovered today is impossible to doubt.

    • Consumption comes not only from pushing down things you’ve gotta do - but also pushing down things that you’re lacking.

    • Because there IS something you’re lacking.

So.

Monk Mode is really all about making the most of life and appreciating it and seeing it for all its beauty.

The pains.

The good things.

The friends still with you.

And those you’ve left behind.

That means that you should be getting to know yourself and come to understand who you want to become

And what your potential holds.

Because by chasing the path your heart screams out for is the way that you’ll be the most SATISFIED with life.

Satisfaction - not chasing happiness.

Because you’ll see the most of life that was possible for you.

Like imagine if children grew up all the same…

Same experiences.

Same ways of being punished.

Same types of friends.

Same type of love received.

Same pains.

Same fortunes.

Same desires.

Same fears.

Same parents.

There’d be no such thing as looking at the little YOU…

The one who you still judge.

The one who you still don’t have any faith in.

What the fuck is that by the way?

And saying, “YOU’RE GOING PLACES YOU CHEEKY FUCK!”

You need to be able to see a young kid and see the potential that they have based on their own unique qualities.

Like how I now look back on the anxious little Riley who couldn’t open his mouth around his own close friends for free of sounding stupid, weird or awkward and then detrimenting those relationships which LED to that very thing happening.

The little Riley who would wake up hoping for a good day and who would be fake and who had unfulfilling sexual relationships and who didn’t know who he was and who did weird OCD shit like snort water through his nose in the bath which the thought of now makes me uncomfortable today.

The kid whose own head fucked with him more than anything external.

I look at that kid differently now.

Because he’s a sick cunt (bleep noise - hey Griffin this is normal in Australia) now.

So embrace your pains.

Embrace the fucked up or annoying parts of yourself that have been hard to accept, understand or deal with.

Because only with true faith in yourself as a person and appreciating all of your qualities and being proud of who you’re becoming - will you ever see long term change for the better.

  • And so I wanna leave you with one final thing.

  • Something that I wrote with care in each word.

  • So that maybe one day you’ll realise the significance of the insight I’ve given you today.

As the noise fades away.

And the mind begins to silence.

I know that the beauty I see was always there.

But it was my decision to start seeing it.

My decision, daily, to forget everything unnecessary.

And to escape my head.

And embrace everything else.
